There's a whole thing from Alt where she talks about she can't restore the soul of someone after they've been put through the rigors of the aptly name Soulkiller. Considering V doesn't even get injected back into his own body until entering the train then I would generally agree that he seems to either be without a soul or with only the tiniest fraction of one. (Because of events he is basically an AI in a human body, akin to Handsome Jack.)
Outside of that he's of an appropriate human age, he's basically just human with some computer bits on board, healthier than a horse, not a mage but he has a very stubborn, very human resilience to him.
