Other Notes: Ryo has what his world calls a Sense. Full details are here, but essentially, he can sense life energy - if your character is alive and sapient, they register. I'm up for discussing things further - let me know!

EDIT: After Diagad, he also gained last rites/death-related powers. He's able to Sense people with connections to death (whether they're undead, have death powers themselves, or are otherwise connected to death); he's also able to lay the souls of the departed to rest and help them pass on to where they need to go. (Later on, with training, he'll be able to take care of ghosts and undead as well.)

TL;DR first: yes he can sense all he wants and is capable within his Sense! Full permission granted!

Infobarf next, pertaining to WHAT he'll sense:

★ Very powerful magic, could be considered deity level from just what she is and her lineage (Phoenix origins have a Seraph class/level soul combined with an incredibly powerful fire elemental fueling their Great Flame)

★ If he can tell WHAT someone is with the Sense, he will be able to tell she's not human if the pointy ears don't already give it away. Yes if he knows what Phoenixes are, he can know she is one with that due to her life energy that exists in spades. Her soul is fiery and bird shaped, because I'm creative and original, clearly.

....I will add more as I remember but those are the key things for now. You know where to find me if you need to poke my brain XD

Phoenixes don't really exist in Ryo's world - that he knows of, at least - so he won't really have a frame of reference for her specifically, aside from Not Human and Not Demon. If she's that powerful, she probably shorts out his Sense the same way spirits or gods do, if you're willing to roll with that!

Feel free to Sense Otoha, and also note that his soul isn't where it should be - it's in an amulet that he carries. Technically that probably makes him undead? But he's also the guardian of the city of Shinjuku, having made a contract with the will of the city itself, so... up to you how that shows up.

Romeo is dead but is a spirit weapon to a god and is given form by godly magic. So idk how that would pick up.

Taiki is a Kirin and probably falls under 'powerful spirit can't look at directly with sight' as Kirin have a Kirin aura.

Takato Matsuda (and Guilmon):
No clue how these two would end up reading to his sense. But in general? Standard human who was converted to a digital lifeform, back to human, then back to digital. And his partner who is a digital lifeform? Not very powerful in their usual forms, but can evolve into more powerful forms, one of which they reach by merging together.

Danny Fenton: Not human. He's either a human with ghost powers, a ghost with a living body, or something in between. And not even he knows the answer for sure. Fairly powerful, but still inexperienced.

Conan Edogawa (Shinichi Kudo): Standard human with no powers, but is the wrong age. He looks seven years old at the most, but is actually seventeen. About a year ago he was forced to take a poison that was meant to kill him. Enter one extremely unexpected side effect, and he lost ten years.

Like his canonmate Romeo above (though for different reasons), Alfredo is dead! And magically better on the train due to... whatever the train does in those circumstances, he's not a zombie.

And Nita is a wizard! Feel free to have him sense wizardry (aka the 'soul' of magic per Young Wizards canon) in the edges of her trace. Otherwise, she's a normal as far as 'human who uses a kind-of magic' goes.

What I'm chill with him figuring out:
The body that Prisoner uses is dead, and has been dead for some indeterminate amount of time. It is not part of Prisoner just as a glove is not part of a hand.

Prisoner is not wont to leave the body but whatever's inside of the body is more of a biological soup that is of an indeterminate age - due to timey wimey bullshit it's hard for me to say if it would scan as SUPER OLD or not at all. It is nonmagical in nature and it will always be in exceptional health despite the state of the body.

Prisoner was human at one time and is not anymore, though I'm not sure the Sense would give that much insight.

Tidus (FFX)

I'll leave this up to your discretion bc different canons, but Tidus is a dream/summoning of a human being. That is to say, he is practically human in every sense of being human in his canon, except his existence relies on having a summoner/a source to keep him around.

So he's fairly human (or comes off as such) in every sense except of This One Weird Trick. It's never really noticed in his canon, even by those who use summons, etc, though I'm fine with Ryo noticing something off about him, or whatever you think makes sense!

He also does have and use healing magic, idk if that's relevant! He's been getting better at using it due to his time on the train.

Edit: ah, I realise Ryo may be able to pick up the higgledy with Tidus as it sometimes hangs out in his heart. If he would, I'll remember to note in our threads!

I wonder what the Sense might pick up about the Seiten sutra? Its dominion is over light and restoration, which is basically... life. And as you know, it's an incomprehensibly vast energy source. But at the same time, when it's just sitting there on his shoulders, it usually does a good job at hiding what it is?

Koumyou himself is fully human, brimming with magical energy (chi in his case). He did die on his world, but I've been treating his existence on the train as a full blown resurrection. Up to you if he registers as just a living dude or if there's anything else to it.

Spark is alive and sentient. No one o the train knows that Gar and Privateer Pirate are also him, they are also alive and sentient. If he can tell that they're the same, please talk to me first.

Xion recently learned that she is actually alive. This is still new to her. But feel free to sense it.

Najaran... is where it gets interesting. She is alive and sentient. So is her cane. So are some of the creatures she keeps in cards in a pouch on her back. Sometimes she lets them out for a while but, not sure if he'd be able to sense them while in card form... I would happily plot if you want. For Najaran, he probably won't be able to sense anything in card form, so that should be simple enough.

Spark/Gar/Privateer Pirate is where it gets complicated. If it's the same person in three different forms, Ryo is eventually going to be able to tell they're the same - the more he interacts with any of them, the more he'll become familiar with how they feel through his Sense, and it wouldn't take him too long to cotton on to the fact that they feel the same. ICly, if asked, he will absolutely keep the secret; if him knowing at all is an issue on an OOC level, we'll definitely need to figure something out.

Sensing Ken is fine... though having a Persona might complicate things. Technically it's a part of himself, but he can summon it as an independent entity, so it might come off as weird.

Okay, so here's how Mami's existence works, as far as I know:

Physically, her body is still human and still largely registers as human if a doctor's doing a physical exam.

Magically is where it gets dicey. She radiates magic, fairly normal on the train, but if he can sense placement of souls, he'd sense that her soul is contained inside the gem.

Kyubey explicitly calls the girls no longer human, so she wouldn't register as human but something else...undead.

Totally okay with sensing her! She may register as a large city's worth of people, however. She is essentially the embodiment of Shinjuku, but I will leave it up to you to determine what he can find out!

There's a whole thing from Alt where she talks about she can't restore the soul of someone after they've been put through the rigors of the aptly name Soulkiller. Considering V doesn't even get injected back into his own body until entering the train then I would generally agree that he seems to either be without a soul or with only the tiniest fraction of one. (Because of events he is basically an AI in a human body, akin to Handsome Jack.)

Outside of that he's of an appropriate human age, he's basically just human with some computer bits on board, healthier than a horse, not a mage but he has a very stubborn, very human resilience to him.

Raven should be fairly easy to Sense. She's half-demon though, so not sure if/how that would reflect. (Considering her father is big bad conquering dimensions type Demon... *shrug*)

Vexen is sort of alive, but Weird. He's a soul with only a tiny fragment of a heart, piloting the magical equivalent of a fossil of a body that's already faded away. According to the laws of his universe, he's a being that should not exist, yet does anyway because his soul was too powerful to fade with his body when he lost his heart. He was originally human, but probably doesn't quite read as such anymore.

Magically speaking, he is a quite powerful mage (on a scale of 1-10, his raw magical power canonically ranks 8).

Entrapta's hair probably puts off a lot of energy. Not as much as a full Princess, but it's the most magical part of her and she's very much mastered using it to its fullest potential. Have at it.

Totally fine to Sense Casper, and also his soul is in his raven.

Casper is also a lot more powerful than he appears and acts, with powers coming from various sources. He has two different kinds of immortality on top of it - both the more 'ageless' immortality from his canon and a Greek-flavored one due to previous game shenanigans.

Unlike with Willow I don't think it'll short out, but would still clock as pretty strong I'd say since Wei Wuxian has a fair bit of power to him. His soul is also older than the body it is currently inhabiting due to sacrifice (the body he's in is 26 whereas his soul would be placed around age 35/36)

He's also host to a Kitsune spirit who is at least 1k years old (all 9 tails) due to his crau, so I'm not exactly sure how this'll effect the Sense since there's two spirits/energies that'd be given off.

Go wild! As much as he passes for human physically (technopath-to-speech-ing aside), Ghost is very definitely not. He's a big psychic presence (even the least advanced Typhon are psychically "bigger" than humans on the noetic field, that's Prey canon, and Ghost is significantly more advanced than a Mimic), though it's up to you how you want that to translate.

More detailedly, his age will probably register as either "30" or "that's an infant" or both, probably not even consistently, he's pretty powerful and just a bit eldritch-alien, and in good health, but the kind of "in good health" where you can tell that his definition of good health isn't quite the same as human baseline.

Perfectly fine with the Sense! Futaba would probably clock in as a relatively normal magic user (human, no off-the-charts power levels, no age discrepancies) - I'm not sure if she'd register as a healer because she does have some healing abilities but they're not her specialty by any means.

The only other thing I can think of is if/when he does see her summon her Persona, he'd probably be able to sense that the UFO-jellyfish thing she just summoned is... still her. Still 100% her.
